The Saints continue to create cap space as defensive tackle Malcom Brown’s name has been thrown around some trade discussions.
In an attempt to get back over the cap, trading Brown would save the Saints roughly around $5 million. As of now the Saints are around -$69.5 million over the cap. The next step for Mickey Loomis and the Saints is trading Malcom Brown.
The Saints signed Brown in 2019 to a 3 year $15 million deal. In two seasons with the Saints he’s totaled 34 tackles in 2019 and 27 tackles in 2020. He totaled 3 sacks and 9 tackles for a loss and 1 pass deflection during his time in New Orleans, and was a critical contribution to the run defense that was so successful. He missed 3 games during his two seasons as a Saints.
As to what the Saints could get for Brown I would say they get a 3rd round pick at best and a 6th rough pick at the least. My prediction is that Brown gets traded to the Bills or the Browns for a 3rd or 4th round pick. Other honorable mentions that could be attempting to get him are the Cowboys, Chargers, and 49ers.
These are my guesses, but we will see once the trigger is pulled and a trade is made.
