Saints release Nick Easton, what this does for the cap

With the cap situation being a concern for the Saints, they began to clean up a big chunk of it this past week.

It started about a week ago with the restructure of Drew Brees’ contract saving $24 million in cap space. The second step started today by releasing veteran guard Nick Easton.

In two season Easton started 15 games and was a good in depth player. He was placed on IR several times and was due $6.5 million this year. This saves about $5.87 million.

With the Drew Brees restructure and the releasing of Nick Easton the Saints have saved around $30 million already.

Another thing to look out for is the NFLPA cap floor. It was $175 million and could potentially move to $185 million meaning the Saints could save another possible $10 million in cap space.
