Kamara out, Ingram questionable, whose number will be called?

The Saints will once again be short handed as they have been all season; As Alvin Kamara will be out once again and Mark Ingram’s game status right now is questionable for Thursday’s game vs the Buffalo Bills. Kamara will miss his third straight game with an MCL sprain/knee injury. Ingram, who has been filling in for Kamara for the past two weeks, was banged up vs the Eagles and now is dealing with a knee injury with some swelling.

With these two big playmakers possibly out for the Saints that leaves two running backs on the roster, Tony Jones Jr. who just returned off of injured reserve with an ankle injury, and Dwayne Washington whose primary role on the team is special teams. These two however won’t be enough to carry the workload vs this Bills defense, which is the 6th best rushing defense in the league.

The Saints do have options on their practice squad, as they have Adam Prentice and Josh Adams who could get called up if the front office feels they should, but I don’t think they will.

This week the Saints signed a flex player in Malcolm Perry who can play running back and wide receiver. He entered the league as a quarterback and made the transition to wide receiver. He won’t get a lot of reps due to a short week, but he’s expected to be elevated to the roster and have a role for Thursday’s game. He can play some running back and maybe get involved in the passing game out of the backfield.

Another option the Saints have is Ty Montgomery, who looks like he’ll play after suffering a gruesome finger injury two weeks ago in Tennessee. He was game planned to have a significant role vs the Titans when Kamara was out until he injured his finger. He’s been the Saints emergency running back in the case of injuries or none of them were available.

The last option the Saints have, and hopefully will get involved is Taysom Hill. He will be the power option for the Saints and hopefully be used on short down and distance situations. Just give him some quarterback powers or read options to get a good 3-4 yards and get the offense going.

I would assume that Sean Payton has Tony Jones and Dwayne Washington as the base guys in the backfield. Then Ty Montgomery and Malcolm Perry in the receiving game from the backfield with Texas routes, screens, and just some simple routes. And the usage of Taysom Hill will be used in short down and distances and red zone situations.
