Saints tried to trade for Darius Slayton

The Saints called the Giants about the availability of wide receiver Darius Slayton according to Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football, but obviously the Saints were unsuccessful in acquiring the wide receiver.

It’s uncertain as to why the trade couldn’t get done prior to Tuesday’s deadline at 4:00 PM EST. They could have possibly not agreed on a deal because of contract issues, draft capital etc. or the injuries of Slayton could have put a restraint as to how much the Saints front office was willing to trade.

Slayton, whose name had been rumored to be available for trade prior to the deadline, hasn’t had as productive a season as his other two seasons. His first two seasons in the league he had 700+ receiving yards in each season.

The wideout wouldn’t have been the best option via a trade but still would’ve been an upgrade to this receiving core that has struggled a good portion of this season.
