Saints name their starting quarterback

After battling it out in training camp and showing out Monday night vs the Jaguars, Jameis Winston has won the Saints starting quarterback position. Prior to the Saints and Jags game Monday night there was a report that Sean Payton wanted to name the starter before the Saints and Cardinals game Saturday. 

The announcement came Friday morning that Winston was the presumed starter for week one vs the Packers, but players were seen Thursday congratulating Jameis after locking up his job after his performance Monday. Winston went 9/10, 123 yards and two touchdowns. 

Winston has looked more comfortable and has carried himself all throughout camp as if he was the starter which shows the confidence he has in himself and his abilities. Right now Sean Payton is exactly what Jameis Winston needs for his career and Winston is what Sean Payton needs at this point in his career. Winston needs a coach who will help limit his turnovers and develop him into an elite quarterback while Sean Payton is thrilled to have the deep ball back in his offensive scheme which is what Winston provides.

Winston signed a one year, $12 million deal with the Saints on March 15th, the day after Drew Brees retired. Seven of that $12 million is earned via incentives this season, tied to a variety of factors including playing time, passing statistics and team success. His path to reach those various incentives became clearer today.
