Training camp day five notes

Day five of Saints training camp was their first practice in pads which was a day dominated by the defense and a rough day for the offense. A lot of players stood out from this practice on both sides of the ball. Here’s notes from today’s practice. 

Notes:

  • Taysom took first team reps
  • Offense had a rough day
  • Zack Baun had the first pick of camp (off of Ian Book)
  • Lattimore is looking really good and is stepping up big time
  • Lattimore almost had a pick but Callaway knocked it away
  • Cesar Ruiz is becoming a solid player after another good practice 
  • Ty Montgomery had a solid day
  • Paulson Adebo flashed a few times
  • Adebo had second team reps with good coverage 
  • Andrew Dowell is standing out during camp
  • Dowell had a pass break up and a strip today
  • Baun and Werner were good today
  • Kaden Elliss and Pete Werner got starting reps in the nickel
  • Kawaan Baker stood out on special teams at the gunner position along with some nice catches
  • Keith Washington landed in his arm awkwardly and left practice early along with Tre’Quan Smith but the injury is unknown 
  • Payton Turner had good run stuffs
  • Ruiz had a nice block on Turner to prevent a sack
  • Davenport had two standout rushes during one on ones
  • PJ Williams was playing third team corner with Washington out
  • Payton Turner batted a pass down as well 
  • No Grant Haley (personal reasons) Terron Armstead, Can Jordan, or Demario Davis (vets day off)
  • Chris Hogan continues to be consistent
