Drew Brees almost returned
Given the Saints current situation at quarterback, the team contacted retired quarterback Drew Brees. Sean Payton even called/texted Brees himself. Brees strongly considered it and even went outside to throw some passes and tested the status of his arm. He then replied to the Saints with a photo of himself golfing to represent that he is enjoying retired life.
Brees also had mentioned that it was too short notice for him to get back into the mix of things, that’s a two to three days to get back into the rhythm of playing football. That’s an absurd amount of time even for a player like Drew Brees.
The Saints did call Phillip Rivers as well, but nothing came of it. Rivers mentioned he wanted to spend Christmas time with his family.
Deonte Harris is not longer Deonte Harris
Saints super star return man and wide receiver Deonte Harris, who will return to playing football next week against the Panthers, will not return as Deonte Harris. Instead he will be Deonte Harty.
As a Christmas gift to his step dad, he legally changed his last name to Harty to honor and thank everything his step dad had done for him over the last 17 years.
An awesome gift from Deonte Harty.
Carl Granderson placed on Covid list
The only Saint to be placed on the Covid list on Saturday was Saints defensive end Carl Granderson. He will be the 16th player and 19th overall member of the Saints to be on the Covid list this week.
The Saints are already short handed at defensive end with injuries and Covid, the Saints will need to work their way around it.
