Chauncey Gardner Johnson to IR, other roster moves

On a day before a game the Saints announced a few roster moves to adjust for injuries. It feels that as one guy comes back another two get injured, which has been the story of the season. As the Saints prepared to take on the Titans, the AFC’s number one seed, they needed to adjust to more adversity.

That biggest headline of the day is the placement of Chauncey Gardner Johnson on injured reserve. During Sunday’s game vs the Falcons Gardner Johnson injured his foot and was eventually carted off, and what now appears to be a broken toe will keep him out for a minimum of three weeks. He’s currently in a boot cast. P.J Williams and Bradley Roby will be filling in his shoes while he’s gone.

The Saints also signed wide receiver Kevin White to the 53 man roster off the practice squad as he could no longer be elevated from the practice squad for games. He’s been active for three games and has one reception for 38 yards and 4 tackles on special teams.

Cornerback Ken Crawley was activated off of injured reserve after being there since September with a hamstring injury. He was on the Covid reserve list as well and is officially on the active roster for the first time this season.

Offensive lineman Will Clapp was activated to the gameday roster for depth in the case of an injury.

Linebacker Chase Hansen was signed to the practice squad after being waived earlier this week. He was on injured reserve since September and was then waived after being activated to play. Good special teams depth if it’s ever needed.

The final roster love was the waiving of defensive tackle Christian Ringo. Ringo appeared in 7 out of 8 games and was a healthy inactive during the Washington game. Likely comes back on the practice squad if he clears waivers. He totaled 8 tackles in those 7 games.
