Saints News from Tuesday 10/19

More post bye week news for the Saints as they get ready to travel to Seattle for their Monday Night Football game against the Seahawks. Guys are coming back off of injuries and the team overall is getting better.

The Saints started their Tuesday morning off with the signing of Lamar Miller to the practice squad. I wrote about the signing here for those who wanna check that out and know more about the situation and what he brings to the Saints.

The Saints made more practice squad signings with the addition of guard Forrest Lamp who was a second round pick by the Chargers back in 2017. He tore his ACL in a preseason game which ruined his rookie season. Lamp only appeared in nine games from 2018-2019 but started for the Chargers in 2020. He was waived by the Buffalo Bills this season with an injury settlement. Lots of upside and potential.

Their other practice squad signing was LB Lakiem Williams, who spent some time in the CFL and some time with the Seahawks during the offseason but was cut. During his 2019 season at Syracuse he totaled 110 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks.

The injury updates for the Saints consisted of the designation of Tre’Quan Smith, Kwon Alexander, and Marcus Davenport to return from injured reserve. They can start retiring to practice and the Saints have 21 days to activate them to the active roster. If they don’t activate them to the roster, they will be on injured reserve for the rest of the season. Lutz was also designated to return from yesterday.

The remaining injury list for the Saints consist of Michael Thomas, Ken Crawley, Nick Vannett, Chase Hansen, Tony Jones (IR), Terron Armstead who is an unknown right now along with Erik McCoy, Taysom Hill, and Deonte Harris.

Once the guys are signed to the active roster, the Saints will need to release and waive some guys. They’ll need to rearrange their roster and put some guys on the practice squad and some guys will just have to leave.

Some extra news is that former Saints cornerback Keith Washington worked out with the Colts. Desmond Trufant, who was just released by the Saints, signed with the Raiders.
