Evaluating the Ian Book pick

The Saints with the 133rd pick in the draft selected quarterback Ian Book out of Notre Dame to start off day three. After the retirement of Drew Brees, the Saints will search until they solidify a franchise quarterback whether is be Jameis, Taysom, or someone else.

Book spent three seasons as a starter at Notre Dame with a record of 30-5 and went 15-0 at home. His size and stature is similar to Drew Brees standing at 5’11, 205 pounds. His natural football instincts are what led to his success and two time captain at Notre Dame. Book plays with grit and toughness and always looks to improve his craft. His football awareness allows him to create plays when outside the pocket and that’s when he is most accurate.

The big trait that Sean Payton is thrilled about is his competitiveness and thrive to win. Book has the most wins in Notre Dame history for a quarterback. Book will bring his own winning culture into an already existing winning culture. Ian Book will create competition and bring out the best in Winston and Taysom during camp. Time will tell how this pick turns out, but it will create some fun offseason training camp competitions.

Stats: 8,948 yards, 72 touchdowns, 20 interceptions, 63.8 completion percentage.
