Saints rumored to trade up for a CB in the draft

A rumor was released today from Charles Robinson that said the Saints could potentially trade up for CB Caleb Farley. The trade was mentioned to ideally take place with a pick prior to the Titans who hold the 22nd pick to get Farley to New Orleans.

Farley went from playing quarterback to receiver and now corner. In only 2 season at corner, Farley Toyota led 56 tackles, 19 pass deflections, one sack, six interceptions along with one pick six. The only dilemma is that Farley has had back problems and surgery on his back. If he passes the Saints medical team tests it could be a key fit for the Saints defense.

When I looked at the teams in front of the Titans in the draft, I saw three to four teams that could possibly want to trade with the Saints. What would it cost the Saints? Here’s my interpretation of what would have to happen.

The first team I saw that could possibly trade with the Saints is the Colts. The Colts are an overall solid team. They definitely have some hole to fill but wouldn’t be too derived from a pick by going back seven spots. For the Saints to go from 28 to 21, here’s how I believe a trade would look like.

Saints receive: pick 21.
Colts receive: pick 28, pick 98, and another pick (I’m thinking next year 2nd or 3rd).

The second team that I think would trade with the Saints is the Raiders at pick 17. The Raiders roster is solid and was a few games away from a playoff spot last year. However they definitely would like a lineman or some defensive help is my guess. A trade for the 17th pick I would assume would look like this:

Saints receive: 17th pick. Raiders receive: pick 28, pick 60, next year second.

The final team I saw that could be a trade suitor for the Saints are the Cardinals at 16. The Cardinals are a solid team as well who could just be looking to fill in spots at corner, which would cost the Saints a little more to trade for this pick than 17.

Saints receive: pick 16, 6th round pick.
Cardinals receive: 28th pick, pick 60, next year’s first.

An honorable mention was the Dolphins at pick 18.

These are just my professional guesses based off of previous trades in the draft and how it could go down if the Saints do end up trading up.
