Drew Brees announces retirement, other qb news

On the date Drew Brees arrived in NOLA, is also the date he retired after 20 years in the NFL. Brees announced his retirement from his Instagram with the caption:

Words don’t give due credit to what Drew Brees means to the city, and we will never forget what he did for not only New Orleans, but the whole NFL community. He may have not went out with a Super Bowl, but he played his last game in the city that he rebuilt.

Now that Drew Brees is officially retired, that leaves Taysom Hill as the only quarterback on the roster for now. While he signed a 4 year $140 million extension, the contract means nothing. This was a move to simply clear $7.5 million in cap space (click here for an update on the cap space).

Hill won’t be getting paid $140 million, he’s getting a 1 year $12.15 million restructure with 4 voidable years to spread out his $9.6 million signing bonus.

Meanwhile, the Saints are approaching a deal with Jameis Winston to be the next starter. They are hoping to make Winston the starter in 2021.
