Saints Q&A

Yesterday I had you guys send in questions on my story. I took some the questions i found most interesting or important and answered them. Make sure to follow me on instagram to have your question answered the next time I do one of these. Without further ado, lets get into it.

What kind of offensive scheme do you expect to see this year?

Last year we saw the Saints take a conservative approach early on in the season. Mainly running the ball and not creating mistakes. That was how Sean Payton wanted to run his team with Jameis Winston. This year I think we’ll see an offense oriented around the play makers rather than Jamies. A good mix of run and pass with play action being thrown in quite a bit. It’ll be a very run and deep shot play action team. Jameis won’t have to win games. He can rely on the team around him and as long as he can put up points it’ll be a good situation. Like Nick Underhill said, the offense could be like the Titans. The quarterback does good enough to take the team to the playoffs. They rely on the playmakers to make plays and the defense to do their job. It could be similar to how the 2017 offense was ran. Relying on the playmakers and defense while the quarterback can make the throws and reads that are needed.

What is Tyrann Mathieu’s impact on the team along with Marcus Maye?

On the field, Tyrann Mathieu’s impact will be astonishing. He’s a play maker and can play anywhere on the field. But I think his impact is bigger than that. His natural leadership is something that isn’t talked about enough. People have talked about his immediate impact in Kansas City and Houston. His voice is heard when he’s talking because he’s a leader. And that’s something the Saints lost a lot of when Terron Armstead, Malcolm Jenkins, and Marcus Williams. Chauncey Gardner Johnson tweeted out that his first day with Tyrann was breathtaking and just wow. That’s for OTA’s, a voluntary camp with no pads, contact, and mainly a skill position focused camp.

Marcus Maye’s impact is underrated as well. He was one of the Jet’s team captains and was their team MVP in 2020. He has the capability to play back deep or in the box. I would say his impact is primarily focused on long distance situations. If it’s a third and long I would expect to see him as the guy back deep. His leadership as well fills another leadership loss.

Who is the best player on the Saints?

Talent wise, it has got to be Alvin Kamara. Michael Thomas could be the best if he was able to play within the past few seasons healthy. I’d say Ryan Ramczyk is up there as well with Demario Davis and Cam Jordan.

What is your prediction on the record/playoff rankings?

I think this team has the capability to win up to 12 games. Definitely in the 10-12 game winning ability. I can see a scenario where that’s higher but until this new era of Saints football can prove their capable of winning more than 12 games I’m gonna stick to that range. If this team could win 9 games with no offense or kicker then I think that winning number goes up. As for the playoffs, I think the 5 seed or 4 seed is about where I’d put them.

Why haven’t the Saints re-signed Kwon Alexander?

The Saints want Pete Werner to basically become the guy who starts alongside Demario Davis. They spent a second round pick on him, he showed a lot of promise with the snaps he played. And if Kwon was to come back I think his snaps would be significantly drop and that’s not something Kwon is interested in. I think he values himself higher than most teams value him which is why he’s still available. His injury history and age also puts a restraint on his capabilities and the desire to want him on any team. For the right price it’s a great signing but otherwise it’s a risk and reach to sign him. To add onto that, the Saints just drafted a linebacker as well, maybe not to start but probably to provide extra depth because the team realized that Kwon isn’t coming back.

Possible free agent signings if any at all?

I think the Saints are basically done in free agency until training camp approaches, possibly mini camp. That’s when we’ll see guys start to show their true skill sets and if they don’t line up how the Saints thought then we might see some guys get cut. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw an offensive lineman signing or a linebacker signing to provide just some good solid depth. I think too that in the case someone gets injured at camp, we’ll see the Saints be aggressive and fill in that position. Some names I would consider keeping an eye on is OL Larry Ogunjobi, DT Brandon Goldman, OL Ereck Flowers, and LB Anthony Barr. I think there is a scenario where Odell is considered but I wouldn’t count on it until more activity heats up.

When will we know about an Alvin Kamara suspension?

There won’t be update on an Alvin Kamara suspension or anything of the sort until at least August 1st. His court date has been postponed a few times and it’s possible it gets postponed again. So, until that date at the minimum we won’t know anything in terms of a suspension or a legal punishment such as a fine of some sort.

What’s the weakest position on the team?

While the Saints have a good roster on paper, I would say that their second defensive tackle is the weakest spot. They have filled that role with a lot of depth pieces, but not quality starters. Now, I do think there’s a scenario that a guy like Tanoh Kpassagnon moves inside just because he has the ability to. We could see Payton Turner or Davenport, but I think long term, having Kpassagnon at defensive tackle two is a better overall fit.

Those are the main questions that I got but here are some quick short answer questions that I wanted to answer.

Are you originally from NOLA?

No, I’m from California, specifically the Bay Area.

Favorite music artist?

Gotta be Kendrick Lamar.

Favorite Juice Wrld song?

Blood on my jeans and All girls are the same are definitely my favorites.

Future plans for the page?

I want to make this my job. I wanna have an income from my site and YouTube. Have a podcast and essentially work from wherever I’m at. I can only do it with your support, so if you’d like to support me drop a follow on Instagram, subscribe to my YouTube channel, and if you can afford it subscribe to my site here.

None of this would be possible without you all so I’d like to just say thank you.
