How the defense could look with Tyrann Mathieu and Marcus Maye

One of the most intriguing topics and talking points surrounding the Saints is the free safety position. The Saints have two new studs at safety with Tyrann Mathieu and Marcus Maye. But having those two safeties is very different from the two safeties the Saints have been working with for the past two seasons in Marcus Williams and Malcolm Jenkins. The playing style is very different and how that’ll translate into the Saints defensive system this year will be interesting.

The Saints have been one of the most man coverage heavy teams in the league. Using cover one looks a good amount of the time and a robber covering the middle of the field or whoever is open. One guy who has range to cover the field and one guy who plays in the box. That’s the traditional role for a two safety look which is what the Saints have been sticking to for quite some time, but I think some of that is about to change.
