Who will step up for the Saints at receiver?

The Saints have become more short handed and thin at the receiver position after the release of wide receiver Kenny Stills and the suspension of Deonte Harris.

For the Saints to cut Kenny Stills this late in the season, as a guy who already knows the playbook and the receiver position already being thin, means something was really bad, and it was. Along with that Deonte Harris is serving a three game suspension leaving the Saints currently with four wide receivers: Lil’Jordan Humphrey, Marquez Callaway, Tre’Quan Smith, and Ty Montgomery.

The Saints will have to sign one to two guys to their roster to fill in for the two absences of Stills and Harris. The Saints have four to five options I believe they’ll go with. Four of them are currently on their practice squad in Easop Winston, Kawaan Baker, Kevin White, and Malcolm Perry with their fifth option being Jalen McCleskey who could get a call from the team.

With the kick and punt returner position somewhat open, that’s where the Saints could go with Easop Winston who took reps at returner in training camp and preseason. Malcolm Perry and Jalen McCleskey also have taken returns so that could be an option for the Saints.

For receivers, I would hope the Saints go with Kawaan Baker and Easop Winston as elevations from the practice squad, but realistically I think they’ll go with Malcolm Perry with a Kevin White sighting.

It wouldn’t hurt to see guys like Easop Winston and Kawaan Baker on the field with a chance, but Sean Payton and the front office will make the decision they feel gives them the best chance to win.
