Saints Sign Lamar Miller to the Practice Squad

Some early morning news for the Saints as they signed veteran running back Lamar Miller to the practice squad. The Saints worked out Miller and three other running backs on October 5th after the injury of Tony Jones which led him to be placed on injured reserve with an ankle injury.

With Tony Jones out the running back position is at thin depth for the Saints right now with Alvin Kamara, Dwayne Washington, and Devine Ozigbo as the three guys on the roster right now, with Ryquell Armstead on the practice squad. Some veteran depth from Miller will help possibly give Kamara some rest if given the opportunity.

Miller may be on the practice squad now, but he could possibly be elevated to the roster prior to the game(s) pending on how comfortable he is with the playbook. Practice squad players can be elevated to the active gameday roster twice, but after that they need to be signed to the roster if the team wants them to play another game.

Miller, 30, has played 106 games for three teams; the Texans, Dolphins, and Bears. In his career he has totaled 5,864 rushing yards for 32 rushing touchdowns. In the receiving game he has 211 receptions for 1,571 yards and 8 touchdowns.

The last full season Miller played was in 2018 when he rushed for 973 yards and 5 touchdowns in 14 games which got him a pro bowl selection. Prior to tearing his ACL in a 2019 preseason game, Miller had 5 straight seasons with 1,000+ yards from scrimmage.
