Monday News from 10/18

The Saints had some post bye week news Monday as they prepare to get some guys back from injuries.

The long list of injuries includes Michael Thomas, Tre’Quan Smith, Wil Lutz, Kwon Alexander, Marcus Davenport, Ken Crawley, Nick Vannett, Tony Jones, Terron Armstead, Erik McCoy, Deonte Harris, and Taysom Hill. All of these guys aside from Tony Jones are eligible to return to practice this week, just a matter of how comfortable the team doctors and players are coming back.

Some guys will be back this week though, like Tre’Quan Smith, who during the Giants game mentioned that he would be back in two weeks.

A report on Michael Thomas’ ankle injury was updated today by Ian Rapoport. Thomas is expected to be a few weeks out, most likely 2-3 weeks. The Saints want to gradually get Thomas back up to speed and ramped up since he hasn’t practiced or played football since January. He could optimistically play on Halloween night vs Tampa Bay, but the most realistic return is the Atlanta game in November.

Some other injury news from today is the designation of kicker Wil Lutz off injured reserve. This means he can start practicing this week and the Saints have 21 days to elevate him to the 53 man roster. So within the next three weeks Lutz will be back after dealing with a core injury.

With guys coming back that probably means some guys will go to the practice squad, so the Saints worked out the following players:

LB Curtis Bolton, C Cohl Cabral, G Deion Calhoun, LB Riley Cole, OT Coy Cronk, G Forrest Lamp, LB Lakiem Williams.
