Payton Turner’s NFL Debut

There wasn’t much to be pleased with after Sunday’s loss to the Panthers, but Saints rookie defensive end Payton Turner definitely showed his skill and potential. He showed that he was one of the best defensive players yesterday for the Saints behind Demario David and Marcus Williams.

It was Turner’s NFL debut after being on the inactive list week one after missing a significant amount of time due to a training camp injury. After hearing all the hype during training camp about how he was performing we finally got to see him play.

Turner totaled 5 tackles, 3 tackles for a loss, and recorded a sack. Turner also recorded 4 pressures on San Darnold, which is tied with Odafe Oweh for the third most. His 6 defensive stops (either a TFL or insufficient gain, doesn’t have to be a tackle) leads all rookie edge defenders. Turner had all this impact on only 31 snaps and looks to get more reps next week against New England.
