Training camp day 6 review

Day six is in the books and the Saints secondary took control of today’s practice. With tight coverage and big hits, it was an overall win for the cornerbacks. Here’s today’s notes and more.

Attendance:

  • No Tre’Quan Smith (injury), Keith Washington (wrist), Deonte Harris (unknown), and Grant Haley (personal reasons)
  • Kwon Alexander is in New Orleans but didn’t participate in practice, it’s unknown as to when he’ll be at camp

Updates:

  • Keith Washington was placed on injured reserve (not season ending)
  • Saints signed Adonis Alexander
  • Kwon Alexander will accumulate slowly and won’t practice right away according to Sean Payton, they paid close attention to Kwon’s recovery all offseason
  • There’s uncertainty if Kwon will play come week one
  • Sean Payton says Paulson Adebo is picking things up quick
  • Lil’Jordan Humphrey has encouraged Sean Payton with his camp so far
  • No update on Deonte or Tre’Quan, but Payton doesn’t think it’ll be long term
  • Ruiz lost 15 pounds and replaced it with muscle, also got work in with Lane Johnson
  • Adonis Alexander is wearing number 44

Notes:

  • An overall good day for the corners
  • Wil Lutz was back kicking for the first time during camp
  • Lattimore continues to have a standout camp
  • Winston took first team reps
  • Neither quarterback distinguished themselves today
  • Payton Turner had another stand out day, had a couple of sacks
  • Devonta Freeman had a lot of touches and reps today
  • It was a heavy run install day

Observations:

  • There was a minor scuffle, someone got a hand on Turner’s face mask and pushed back, Terron broke it up before anything could happen
  • Payton Turner took reps at both sides of the defensive line
  • Wil Lutz went 6 for 6 on field goals today

Plays:

  • Paulson Adebo had an interception during one on ones off of Ian Book
  • Patrick Robinson had a nice pass break up in Callaway
  • Brian Pool jammed Tommylee Lewis into the ground but then got beat deep
  • Kawaan Baker beat Prince Amukamara over the top
  • Bryce Thompson cracked Stevie Scott, loudest hit of the day
  • Patrick Robinson smacked a runner on a sweep play
  • Winston completed four passes in a row to Kamara, Dwayne Washington, Kamara, then Montgomery
  • Chris Hogan continues to make tough catches after leaping out for one
  • Winston took a deep shot for Callaway (slightly under thrown) but Marshon Lattimore’s coverage was too tight any way
  • Ken Crawley has the first interception of Jameis Winston’s camp, intended for Kawaan Baker deep down the right sideline but Crawley was step for step with Baker (slightly under thrown)
  • Jalen McCleskey had a fantastic double move route and Taysom Hill threw the ball right at the best moment

Standout players:

  • Payton Turner
  • Ken Crawley
  • Paulson Adebo
  • Marshon Lattimore
  • Chris Hogan
