Two under the radar players to look out for

As training camp continues some players will stand out more than others. The newest members of the team like rookies, young free agents, and undrafted free agents are the players that stand out the most, but who could be under the radar players to stand out this training camp? I have two players to keep an eye on as camp continues, Jalen McCleskey and Tony Jones Jr.

The Saints signed McCleskey in April after he originally signed with the Falcons after being an undrafted free agent in 2020. He stands at 5’11, 180 pounds and has really good speed. With his size and versatility, Sean Payton could use McCleskey however he believes is best. Sean could use him in the slot or on the outside for plays taking shots more downfield. With the wide receiver room thing at depth right now as well, it’s the perfect opportunity for McCleskey to step up. He could play a role in special teams, possibly gunner or a backup returner. He’s had a pretty good showing so far during training camp and definitely has a high potential ceiling.

The second player I want to talk about is running back Tony Jones Jr.

Jones is an elusive back with a lot of potential and could get a lot better if he is developed the right way. Jones was someone last year who Payton had expressed had a lot of potential. Payton had mentioned that if there was a full offseason he likely would’ve made the roster. Jones, standing at 5’10, 220 pounds started one game last season. He started week 17 against Carolina and had 3 carries for 13 yards. He’s had an impressive camp so far taking reps with the second team offense. As training camp continues keep an eye out for his name.
