Why the Saints continue to bring back Ken Crawley

If there is one question that pops up every offseason or regular season at some point, it’s “Why do the Saints keep resigning Ken Crawley?” Obviously he’s had his struggles including the 2018 season which has led to his demise from the Saints community. There is a reason why the Saints like Crawley and what he brings to the table.

The first thing is that Crawley does have potential. The skill level is there, it’s just the execution and confidence. In 2017 Crawley was the best red zone corner in the league and had himself a very outstanding season. Once 2018 hit it seemed he had lost his confidence and mentally he couldn’t take the criticism of fans which ultimately created a bad player-fan relationship.

Crawley also brings his veteran assets to the team. He’s been in the system since 2016 and he knows how DA runs his defense. He brings experience which is critical when you don’t have a solid number two corner or an undeveloped second corner. Which is the case right now, the Saints don’t have a solid developed number two corner, hence Crawley is a good asset and has value at the corner position.

The final thing is depth, Crawley knows the system and he can play special teams, safety, corner, nickel, etc. which makes him a somewhat valuable player in the Saints system. If someone gets injured Crawley can most likely fill that role amongst other roles on the team.
